I started playing this little mobile game called Marvel Snap since March 2023 (the Days of Future Past season) and I’ve been quite hooked since! I hit Infinite Rank by my fourth season. I’ve hit Infinite rank multiple times since then, each one with a different deck. Since Marvel Snap is a live service game that is undergoing continuous development, the competition continues to evolve. New cards get introduced in the game, and existing cards can sometimes be changed for better or for worse. As time goes by, these old decks may see significant changes. I’ve decided to write about these decks since I’m a sentimental guy and I want to capture these moments. For June 2024, I used a deck that people refer to as Pro Ball.
Deck Details
Infinite Deck Name: Pro Ball
Season Used: The Celestials’ Finest (June 2024)
Card List: Nebula, Titania, White Widow, Jeff, Ravonna Renslayer, Green Goblin, Magik, Debrii, Professor X, Cannonball, Doctor Octopus, Red Hulk
Win Condition: Lock down or fill up one location then get a Power advantage there. Finish the match off by winning a second location using Cannonball.
Card Roles:
- Nebula – Baits your opponent into playing cards in her location.
- Titania – Works as a clogger and a late-gate play.
- White Widow – Clogs an opposing location with the Widow’s Kiss.
- Jeff – For playing in locked locations or in the Professor X location.
- Ravonna Renslayer – Let’s you play Green Goblin or Professor X one turn earlier.
- Green Goblin – Works as a clogger.
- Magik – Extends the game to a Turn 7. Also tech against locations.
- Debrii – Works as a clogger
- Professor X – Locks down one location.
- Cannonball – Can win you one location.
- Doctor Octopus – Pulls up to four cards from your opponent’s hand into a location.
- Red Hulk – Your game winner.
Key Card Strategies
Clog the World: With Pro Ball, you’ll need to start filling up at least one of your opponent’s locations. White Widow does this with her Widow’s Kiss. Debrii clogs two locations with Rocks, but she does it on both sides. And Green Goblin is another clogger, moving to your opponent’s side with -3 Power.
Enablers: Ravonna and Magik are enablers in Pro Ball. Ravonna let’s you play Professor X on Turn 4, which can easily win you one location if you play him right. Meanwhile, Magik makes the match go to Turn 7. An extra turn will let you clog your opponent’s locations easily and give you enough time to respond.
Location Lockers: Turn 5 is very important to Pro Ball. On Turn 5, Professor X can lock a location which synergizes well with Cannonball. If you have the Power advantage there by Turn 5, you’re winning it. Meanwhile, Doctor Octopus pulls as many as four cards into his location which effectively prevents your opponent from playing new cards there.
Finishers: Cannonball is key to Pro Ball. He moves the highest Power opposing card from his location and win it for you. Meanwhile, Red Hulk can win a location all on his own if you draw him early and your clogging results in your opponent not maximizing his Energy. If you manage to play Magik, having Cannonball and Red Hulk is almost a guaranteed win.
Other Notes: Nebula is here to bait the opponent into committing to a location, letting you clog it faster. Titania is best played with Cannonball on Turn 6 or with Red Hulk on Turn 7.
Deck Evolution
What’s Changed in This Deck? You can tell that Pro Ball was a broken deck with all the nerfs that hit it. The first major hit was to Professor X, whose ability was changed to allow cards to be moved into his location. This broke his synergy with Cannonball, whose Power was reduced by 1.
Then, Red Hulk was changed to lower his ceiling but raise his floor (Power changed to 10 but he only gets +3 per turn if the opponent has unspent Energy). Later on, Ravonna’s Power was reduced by 1. Another card that was nerfed is White Widow. Her Widow’s Kiss was changed from -4 Power to -3 Power. Finally, Doctor Octopus was reworked, with his ability changed to just pulling the lowest Power card in your opponent’s hand. That’s six of the twelve cards in Pro Ball getting changed between when I got it to Infinite and now that I’m writing about it!
Conclusion
I used a broken deck the prior season with BLech, so I didn’t mind using another one with Pro Ball. And boy, the Pro Ball deck was certainly broken. Right after I had gotten to Infinite with Pro Ball, the nerf to Cannonball and Professor X happened. When Professor X was changed, Pro Ball essentially died. The Doctor Octopus rework meant that we’ll never see the Pro Ball deck in Marvel Snap ever again. So I’m glad that I was able to experience getting to Infinite at least once with this deck, even though I feel a little dirty for using it for one season.
