Marvel Snap – My January 2024 Infinite Deck – Minus Power

Written by thegaminggeek

I started playing this little mobile game called Marvel Snap since March 2023 (the Days of Future Past season) and I’ve been quite hooked since! I hit Infinite Rank by my fourth season. I’ve hit Infinite rank multiple times since then, each one with a different deck. Since Marvel Snap is a live service game that is undergoing continuous development, the competition continues to evolve. New cards get introduced in the game, and existing cards can sometimes be changed for better or for worse. As time goes by, these old decks may see significant changes. I’ve decided to write about these decks since I’m a sentimental guy and I want to capture these moments. For January 2024, I used a deck that I’d like to call Minus Power.

Deck Details

Infinite Deck Name: Minus Power

Season Used: Planet Hulk (January 2024)

Card List: The Hood, Selene, Jeff, Ravonna Renslayer, Green Goblin, Storm, Viper, The Sentry, Hobgoblin, Annihilus, Alioth, Galactus

Win Condition: Win the right location via negative power cards and contest another location with your other cards. The Sentry produces the -10 Power The Void card on Turn 4 and Annihilus can send it to your opponent on Turn 5.

Card Roles:

  1. The Hood – Negative Power card that creates a 1-Cost 6 Power Demon.
  2. Selene – Gives -3 Power to both players’ lowest Power card in hand.
  3. Jeff – For restricted locations.
  4. Ravonna Renslayer – Makes your goblin cards cheaper.
  5. Green Goblin – Negative Power card that goes to your opponent’s side. Selene target.
  6. Viper – For sending The Hood or The Void to your opponent’s side.
  7. Storm – For the right location so your opponent can’t block The Void. Also gets rid of problematic locations.
  8. The Sentry – High Power card that creates a -10 Power card called The Void.
  9. Hobgoblin – Negative Power card that goes to your opponent’s side. Selene target.
  10. Annihilus – Sends all Negative Power cards on your side to your opponent’s side.
  11. Alioth – Destroys all opposing unrevealed cards in it’s location.
  12. Galactus – Destroys all other locations.

Key Card Strategies

The Annihilus Package: At the core of the Minus Power deck is the “Annihilus Package”. The Sentry is one of the highest Power 4-Cost cards in the game. He can’t be played at the right location and generates The Void at the right location, which plays perfectly with Annihilus who can send all Negative Power cards on your side to the opponent. The Hood is included in this package because he is another Negative Power card that can switch sides, and also generates a 1-Cost Demon that can be played with Annihilus on Turn 6.

Goblin Gang: Reinforcing the concept of Minus Power are everyone’s favorite goblins. Green Goblin and Hobgoblin have a similar purpose – to lower the total Power of your opponent at a location while occupying space at the same time. They have great synergy with Galactus and are nasty when played on certain locations like The Space Throne or Bar Sinister.

Goblin Enablers: These two ladies are really good complimentary pieces for Minus Power. Selene kneecaps any low Power cards your opponent has (great against Iron Man) while making your goblins more potent. Ravonna lowers the costs of the goblins, allowing you to play them earlier or with other cards like The Hood or a Demon.

Big Finishers: Minus Power is most effective when you have priority on Turn 6. Hopefully by then, you have an insurmountable lead in one location and a slight lead at another. Playing Alioth at the location your opponent is likely to contest will win you the match. Since we have the goblins and Jeff in the deck, Galactus is also a viable finisher. Playing Green Goblin, The Sentry, and Annihilus may make opponents give up on the right location, making it a prime target for Galactus.

Other Tips: Viper is for sending The Void to your opponent if you don’t have Annihilus. Storm is for locking the right location to prevent your opponent from blocking the Void, but she can also be used as location tech.

Deck Evolution

What’s Changed in This Deck? As of this writing, the only major change to Minus Power is Alioth, who no longer destroys cards but just erases their text.

What’s Changed in the Meta? Variants of the Minus Power deck was at the top of the meta last January 2024, but it is very predictable. Once you see The Sentry played on Turn 4, you know what you’ll need to counter (e.g. play Professor X at the right location). Thanos decks started emerging thanks to new tools in Cull Obsidian and Mockingbird. Destroy decks can easily deal with the negative Power cards that you send their way. Discard decks also received new tools, allowing them (especially Hela decks) to be more consistent.

Conclusion

While no longer a top meta deck, I think Minus Power is still very potent. If you want to use this deck, you might have to consider replacing Alioth with a bigger 6-Cost card like Red Hulk. I’ve seen other decks that combine the Annihilus package with other deck concepts like Smoove or Mill. In fact, I used the Annihilus package with the Darkhawk package in another deck that got me to Infinite just last March 2024.
