I started playing this little mobile game called Marvel Snap since March 2023 (the Days of Future Past season) and I’ve been quite hooked since! I hit Infinite Rank by my fourth season. I’ve hit Infinite rank multiple times since then, each one with a different deck. Since Marvel Snap is a live service game that is undergoing continuous development, the competition continues to evolve. New cards get introduced in the game, and existing cards can sometimes be changed for better or for worse. As time goes by, these old decks may see significant changes. I’ve decided to write about these decks since I’m a sentimental guy and I want to capture these moments. For December 2023, I used the InSheNaut deck.
Deck Details
Infinite Deck Name: InSheNaut
Season Used: Hellfire Gala (December 2023)
Card List: Sunspot, Misty Knight, Jeff, Magik, Cosmo, Cyclops, Shang-Chi, High Evolutionary, Leech, She-Hulk, Hulk, The Infinaut
Win Condition: Build a power advantage in the early game by using Sunspot, Misty Knight, and Jeff. Force Turn 7 with Magik, then play She-Hulk and The Infinaut on Turn 7 by skipping Turn 6.
Card Roles:
- Sunspot – Gains 1 Power for every unspent Energy.
- Misty Knight – The evolved version randomly adds 1 Power to one of your cards in play at the end of any turn that you have unspent Energy.
- Jeff – For restricted locations.
- Magik – Location tech and creates Limbo which forces a Turn 7
- Cosmo – Tech against Shang-Chi and other On Reveal effects.
- Cyclops – The evolved version gives -1 Power to two random opposing cards whenever you have unspent Energy.
- Shang-Chi – Destroys cards with 10 or more Power.
- High Evolutionary – Gives special abilities to certain cards (Misty, Cyclops, Hulk)
- Leech – Removes abilities from cards in your opponent’s hand on Turn 6.
- She Hulk – Cost is reduced by 1 for every unspent Energy the previous turn.
- Hulk – +2 Power after every turn that you have unspent Energy.
- The Infinaut – 20 Power card that can only be played if you didn’t do anything the previous turn.
Key Card Strategies
Deck Enablers: You’ll never want to play High Evolutionary but you need him in InSheNaut to unlock the hidden abilities of Misty, Cyclops, and Hulk. Without him, this deck will not work as intended. Magik isn’t as important but InSheNaut works best when you’re able to force a Turn 7.
Power Gainers: To play the win condition of InSheNaut, you’ll need to skip Turn 6. Normally, not playing any cards will leave you at a significant disadvantage in Power. Evolved Misty and Sunspot will alleviate this and provide you with benefits every turn that you don’t spend all your Energy. If you have both in play, you can still gain 7 Power even if you don’t play anything on Turn 6.
One-Two Punch: This deck is named InSheNaut because of these two. The Infinaut can only be played if you don’t play any cards the previous turn. This works great with She-Hulk as her cost is reduced for each unspent Energy from the previous turn. Not playing any cards on Turn 6 reduces She-Hulk’s cost to 0, allowing you to play her and The Infinaut on Turn 7 with one Energy to spare.
Special Tech: For me, Leech is vital in InSheNaut because it disables most win conditions and counters your opponent may have. Cosmo is another good tech card that provides a hiding spot for your big cards and a counter to powerful OnReveal cards.
Other Tips: Hulk is a good alternative to Infinaut. Cyclops also helps give a Power advantage when you have unspent energy. Finally, you can play Shang-Chi and She-Hulk on Turn 6 by floating Energy on Turn 5.
Deck Evolution
What’s Changed in This Deck? As of this writing, the only major change to InSheNaut is to Leech. From completely nullifying all abilities in your opponent’s hand on Turn 6, he was changed to removing just OnReveal abilities the moment he is played. Leech used to win matches all on his own. I would snap before playing him and opponents would frequently retreat as soon as Turn 6 started. Leech still counters a lot of cards but the narrower scope definitely hurt this specific deck in general.
What’s Changed in the Meta? InSheNaut remained dominant for months, being able to compete against Thanos decks and Annihilus decks. I was able to reach Infinite a second time because of InSheNaut. However, Discard decks received several new tools in Corvus Glaive, Miek, Supergiant, and Proxima Midnight that resulted in the rise of several versions. The most dominant version in recent times is the Hela Discard decks, with a Power output that InSheNaut has trouble matching. People started playing Mobius M. Mobius again which is a major counter to She-Hulk. And finally, Red Hulk has given people a counter against unspent Energy.
Conclusion
The InSheNaut deck was dominant even before I started using it and it remained dominant for so long, I even made it back to Infinite two seasons later with a similar InSheNaut deck. The change to Leech affected this deck’s effectiveness. But even before that change, InSheNaut was already losing its grip thanks to the emergence of Hela Discard and more people slotting Mobius in their decks. There are folks who are still able to pilot slightly different versions of InSheNaut to Infinite, but the deck is no longer considered to be top of the Marvel Snap metagame as of this writing.
